More Success for QMC
Staff and students at Queen Mary’s College are again celebrating outstanding examination results. With a record enrolment of 2300 this year, the College repeated last years highest ever pass-rates of 99% at A-level and 90% at AS level and beat its own record for students gaining top grades, with an astonishing 1142 A grades achieved. These successes follow the publication of the latest national School and College Performance Tables which identified Queen Mary’s as the most successful sixth form college in Hampshire, based on the progress made by students since leaving school. An Ofsted Report in May praised the quality of education and support at Queen Mary’s, and characterised the progress made by students as “excellent.”

Amongst the top A- level performers were ex-pupils from across the Basingstoke area. These include Mitch Barker from Everest Community College, who achieved A grades in Politics, Psychology and Law, and ex-Testbourne pupil Iain Ellis who gained A grades in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics & Further Mathematics and History. Hayley Butler from Cranbourne School was one of a number of students winning Oxbridge places; she will be taking up her place to study Law with French Law at Magdalen College, Oxford this Autumn, having achieved A grades in French, Spanish and History. Students celebrating AS successes include Fiona Ross from Costello Technology College who achieved A grades in Graphics, English, Law, History and Media Studies, and ex John Hanson pupil Thomas Capper who gained A grades in Computing, Economics, Mathematics, Philosophy and Physics.
